Two of the most common questions we hear in our office are ” How many treatments do I need to get better?” or “Can you fix me?”. Sometimes I wish there was a magic wand to wave over you so that magically you were all better, but sadly no such thing exists.
First to address the latter question, here at Pain Relief Therapies we consider ourselves healers based on the wonderful quote by Maryann Hasana that states ” A healer does not heal you. A healer is someone who holds space for you while you awaken your inner healer, so that you may heal yourself.” As a Myofascial Release Therapist, it is our goal to help create space within the body. In my personal experience as a receiver of MFR, it is not just in the physical body but the emotional body as well. We are here to support your healing process and be a key or stepping stone on that journey offering guidance, patience, understanding, tools and maybe some tough love when you needed. WE ARE HERE FOR YOU!
Back to the first question! We are all created to be unique individuals much like snowflakes. Even if we have similar diagnoses the way our body responds to MFR can be very different. Sometimes these seemingly similar symptoms can be caused by very different things as well. There can also be different layers to the injury, pain or trauma that is causing the dysfunction in the body. Overall, when our bodies are in a chronic pain pattern or a sudden onset of pain if we address the issues at hand as soon as possible with much verve it seems to clear out of the body much faster. The more frequent treatments you have after an injury or while you are feeling the pain the better the results. Generally speaking while in an acute state of pain or discomfort getting treated at least once or twice a week is our recommendation along with doing self-care at home. Maintainance is very important as well and varies for everyone.
